Services for Individuals & Families

Specialized Skill Development

There are three levels of Specialized Skill Development that address challenges individuals may have because of limited social skills, repetitive behaviors, rigid thinking, and other ASD symptoms. Specialized interventions are used to increase adaptive skills for greater independence, enhance community participation, and replace or modify challenging behaviors. Supports focus on positive behavior strategies that incorporate a proactive understanding of behavior and skill building. Services are based on individually-tailored plans developed by people with expertise in behavioral supports and independent living skills.

Here are the 3 Levels of Support Services Offered:

Behavioral Specialist Services (BSS)

BSS provides specialized intervention strategies to guide individuals in utilizing positive adaptive behaviors that can replace or modify their challenging behaviors. A challenging behavior considered to be disruptive or destructive, preventing or interfering with inclusion in home, family, or community life. The BSS develops and promotes consistent ongoing implementation of the Behavioral Support Plan (BSP) and Crisis Intervention Plan (CIP) in the home and community settings. The BSS is the team leader that will guide and teach the other team members- family, friends, community members, co-workers, employers, staff, and others who remain in contact on a daily basis on how to utilize both the BSP and CIP.

Systematic Skill Building (SSB)

SSB develops a Skill Building Plan (SBP) and uses evidence-based methods to help individuals acquire skills that promote independence and integration into the community, which are not behavioral in focus. The SSB will also guide and teach the team- family, friends, and employers—to know how to utilize the SBP effectively for positive results in the individual’s skill building goals.

Community Support (CS)

CS assists individuals in acquiring, retaining, and improving communication, socialization, self-help, and other adaptive skills necessary to reside in the community. CS facilitates social interaction; use of natural supports and typical community services available to all people; and participation in education and volunteer activities. CS includes activities that improve capacity to perform and instrumental activities of daily living.
